New Delhi, Dec. 13 — Shibani Kashyap, the voice behind hits like Zinda hu main (Zinda, 2006) and Sajna aa bhi jaa (Waisa Bhi Hota Hai II, 2003), thinks the indie pop music industry is suffering because of neglect from Bollywood and TV channels alike.
“It’s not just Bollywood, the blame also goes to the electronic media,” she says, adding, “Today, if an individual artist makes a video song, they have to run after all the music channels asking for the video to be played on their channel.” The 33-year-old, who will soon be performing with musician Yo Yo Honey Singh in the Capital, says his songs have a sense of humour.
“Honey Singh is very candid in his expressions, and he is very true and dedicated to his music. His songs have a sense of humour. They also stay on top of the charts,” she says.
Talking about song lyrics attracting attention for being explicit, she says, “We should not limit the freedom of expression. Yes, vulgar lyrics should be avoided, but freedom of expression should be granted.”
