Minister for Transport Gladys Berejiklian today had a special helper on hand to judge the festive decorating skills of some of Sydney Buses’ most dedicated staff.
Robert Davey, 10, helped Ms Berejiklian decide the winner of the annual Christmas Bus competition, contested this year by finalists from State Transit Authority’s Mona Vale, Ryde and Kingsgrove depots.
Ms Berejiklian and Robert, a patient of the Sydney Children’s Hospital, took in the buses’ Christmas spirit – each vehicle covered in baubles, tinsel and coloured lights.
Robert judged the Mona Vale depot the winner for 2013.
“The time and spirit that go into decorating these buses of the enjoyment of customers must be applauded,” Ms Berejiklian said.
“Staff show real dedication each year to give bus passengers a special experience on Sydney Buses services.”
State Transit Authority Chief Executive Peter Rowley said his staff have been competing to decorate buses and benefit charities for eight years.
“We’re extremely proud to have these people working for us, doing their best to give customers a unique Christmas experience,” Mr Rowley said.
Mona Vale Depot donated its $500 prize to Tour de Cure and State Transit Authority also donated $500 to Sydney Children’s Hospital at Randwick.
