Beijing, Dec 25 Amidst the global surge in new Covid-19 cases, China is reportedly witnessing an uptick in mortality rates linked to infections caused by the JN.1 variant, as per a media report.
According to The Epoch Times, the country’s crematoriums are operating non-stop due to a spike in Covid-related deaths. This development follows a recent pneumonia outbreak in China, particularly affecting children.
Residents in Henan province disclosed that government-operated crematoriums are functioning continuously, both day and night. The report suggests that numerous locals are grappling with fevers and colds, and local hospitals are at full capacity. A significant number of children have contracted the virus, resulting in a higher mortality rate among the elderly due to pneumonia.
A resident named Zhou Xiang (name changed) from Nanyang city in Henan Province claimed that people are prohibited from attributing their illnesses to Covid. “Now, they are not allowed to say that it is related to Covid-19,” Zhou stated. According to him, the medical system attributes infections in elderly patients to underlying diseases, and requests for Covid-19 tests are consistently denied. Despite public awareness, the official stance remains undisclosed.
The reported increase in deaths is believed to be linked to the JN.1 variant, a sublineage of the Omicron variant present in 41 countries. Although the World Health Organization (WHO) asserts that JN.1 causes mild infections, The Epoch Times contradicts this by reporting deaths across various age groups.
Zhou asserted that not only are elderly individuals affected, but “young people and children” are also succumbing to the virus. However, the handling of their deaths is allegedly downplayed, with limited information shared only among close relatives and friends.
Zhou, who recently attended funerals at a crowded funeral home, revealed that crematoriums now operate 24 hours a day, according to information from a friend working in the facility. “There are eight crematoriums in the funeral home, all cremating corpses 24 hours a day, which is quite scary,” he expressed.
