“Little India” Gateway for Harris Park: A Milestone!

Prime Minister Albanese and Prime Minister Modi celebrated Australia’s valued Indian diaspora communities at a community event at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney. In recognition of the important contributions of the Indian diaspora to Australia’s rich multicultural society, the leaders unveiled a plaque for the foundation stone of a “Little India” gateway for Harris Park.

Speaking on this milestone, Sanjay Deshwal, Australian Visa and Migration Consultancy services, said, “A milestone achieved after eight years of collaborative work done by LIHPBA,” Sanjay Deshwal,

How did it all start?
“It started in 2015 when Little India Harris Park Business Association was started by Sanjay Deshwal and Nitin Setia.
From a humble Indian Flag hosting at 95 Wigram street on 26th January 2015 and 15th August 2015, it laid to the foundation of this long process. Dr Geoff Lee then Parrmatta MP walked with us to every business owner and motivated all to come together for a common cause,” Deshwal informed.
He further added, “It resulted in first ever Diwali street festival in 2017 which went on to become one of the largest festivals conducted now every year with great fanfare.
Lord Mayor Andrew Wilson and Lord Mayor Bib Dwyer are both to be thanked for their leadership role and further followed up by Lord Mayor Steven Issa and Lord Mayor Donna Davies and ur has now led to Lord Mayor Sameer Pandey first Indian origin Lord Mayor all over Australia.
The naming was done for six months but due to COVID, we were not able to celebrate it longer and  or further extend it.
Finally, MP Andrew Charlton allocated 3.5 million for little India and an India Gate is now a reality.”
