The evening was aptly themed Mystic Melodies, with the range of music encapsulating classical, spiritual, folk, devotional themes all in one performance. As soon as he arrived on stage, Vikram connected with the audience of close to 500 guests and engaged with them from the word go.  He asked them what they wanted to hear, sang for them, sang with them, creating a soulful, mesmerising experience. Young and old alike joined in the chorus. He sang popular bhajans, in Hindi, Sanskrit and a few in regional languages including Bangla and Gujarati, and some Bollywood gold numbers emanating divine romance.

I find it hard to say which one was my favourite but Achutam Keshavam would have to be one of them.  As I looked around at the audience, many sat with their eyes closed and swaying gently from side to side soaking in the ambience and feeling uplifted.

A musician par excellence, blending the traditional with the contemporary, a voice that transports you to another space, Vikramji sang for over three hours with no real need to close off but that all good things do come to an end.

A shout out to the organisers too who put up the show in Sydney at short notice and still managing to get a packed hall.

This has been a whirlwind tour for Vikram, with performances almost every night in a different city starting with Perth, then Brisbane, Sydney, and closing his Australia tour in Melbourne. I’m impressed by his ability to bring the vibrant energy and grace to these celebrations and grateful I had the opportunity to experience the Sydney event myself.
