The Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) witnessed a spectacular Annual Eid Celebration on
May 1st, 2023. This grand event brought together renowned cricketing legends, distinguished guests, and cricket enthusiasts from diverse backgrounds. Organized by Kamil Khan, the founder of the EID MUBARAK, EID Celebration at SCG, the event exceeded all expectations and left an indelible mark on the hearts of those in attendance.
The Annual Eid Celebration began with the acknowledgement of the original custodians of the land and was followed by the National anthem of Australia. This gesture of respect and inclusivity set the tone for the event, followed by the soul-stirring call to prayer, the Azan, reverberating throughout the iconic SCG stadium. Attendees came together to offer prayers, creating a truly inclusive and multicultural environment.
The highlight of the evening was an engaging Q&A session featuring two legendary cricketers, Wasim Akram and Waqar
Younis. Hosted by the esteemed sports journalist, Mike Coward, the session delved into the players’ illustrious careers, their experiences, and insights into the world of cricket. The audience was captivated by the wealth of knowledge shared by these iconic figures.
Adding to the allure of the event, Erin Holland, a renowned host, lent her charisma and expertise to ensure a seamless and unforgettable experience for everyone present.
Esteemed guests graced the occasion, including The Hon. Stephen Kamper, MP Minister for Small Business, Lands and
Property, Multiculturalism, and Sport. The presence of Mr. Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri, High Commissioner for Pakistan, further elevated the event’s prestige. Australian cricket luminaries Stuart MacGill and Stuart Clark, along with Sri Lankan cricketer Russell Arnold, and boxer Billy Dib were among the special guests who contributed to the event’s electric atmosphere.
The Annual Eid Celebration at SCG was held in the iconic SCG Noble Dining Hall, an enchanting setting that added a touch of elegance to the evening. Kerrie Mather, Chief Executive Officer of Venues NSW, Phillip Heads, Group General Manager Communications, Heritage, and Community at Venues NSW, and Neil Maxwell, Chairman of the prestigious Sydney
Cricket Club and SCG Cricket, were also in attendance, lending their support to this momentous occasion.
During the event, Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis were awarded lifetime honorary membership of the Sydney Cricket
Ground (SCG). The fast bowlers, also known as the “two Ws,” have become the only Pakistani cricketers to receive
membership in one of the most famous and historic cricket venues. This honour places them in the esteemed company of
legendary cricketers such as Brian Lara, Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and Ravi Shastri, further solidifying their iconic
status in the world of cricket.
Approximately 300 distinguished guests reveled in the festivities, enjoying the sumptuous fare and the camaraderie that
permeated the atmosphere. The event served as a testament to the spirit of inclusivity, cultural diversity, and community
harmony that is celebrated during the auspicious occasion of Eid.
