Labor to support Shree Swaminarayan Hindu Temple ISSO

A NSW Minns Labor Government will provide $50,000 to the Shree Swaminarayan Hindu Temple ISSO in Blacktown to help fund an upgrade and expansion of its facilities.

The upgrade will allow the Temple to better serve its community by providing sports and youth programs including indoor cricket, badminton and games.

The funding commitment is part of NSW Labor’s Fresh Start Plan to support growing communities that have been neglected during 12 years of Liberal and national governments.

The Hindu community in Sydney has grown from 60,0000 people in 2011 to more than 250,000 in 2021. There is a desperate need for more infrastructure to support this community.

People from NSW come from more than 200 countries, speak 260 languages and follow 135 different faiths. Nearly half of everyone in NSW was born overseas or have a parent who was born overseas.

Only Labor will support our many diverse communities and promote a vibrant multicultural society – because only Labor has a fresh start plan that will do what is needed.

Quotes attributed to Steve Kamper, NSW Shadow Minister for Multiculturalism:

“This funding demonstrates NSW Labor’s commitment to supporting the Indian community. It’s so important for young people to have a safe space to get support and feel part of their local community.”

“Labor’s funding will ensure young people in the Indian community can enjoy this dedicated space for many years to come.”
