The Indian diaspora is hoping that the Liberal party will preselect Pallavi into a winnable positions in the Upper House ticket.
Pallavi Sinha, who has featured in our paper many times including as a voice for the community, an organiser of successful forums for women, including a recent forum featuring successful women business leaders from migrant backgrounds and an advocate with a proven track record of advocating for diverse communities, including the Hindu community.
The Liberals are lagging behind in the polls, in contrast to the Labor party which recognises diversity, and won the last Federal election, and several elections around Australia.
Despite figures that indicate that India is the highest country of origin for skilled workers paying taxes, the primary source country for permanent migration to Australia. Second highest source country for students, there’s no Indian origin person representing our community and the Liberal party in State or Federal Parliament.
Will the Liberal party continue to fall behind countries such as the UK, USA and Canada in terms of representation of the Indian community? Time will tell, and the ballot box will reflect whether or not the Party is reflecting modern Australia.
