Indian Independent Showcase – Adelaide Fringe 2023

Adelaide, 08/01/23 – blaide.live presents the INDIAN INDEPENDENT SHOWCASE, for the first time at the Adelaide Fringe 2023 from 19th February 2023 to 11th March 2023, featuring various performances by Ritviz, Nishant Suri, Karan Singh Magic and Nush Lewis.

Bringing artists from beyond the mainstream, the Indian Independent Showcase attempts to highlight contemporary Indian talent and their impact on popular youth culture.

This is a first of its kind showcase with its focus on new-age Indian talent at the Adelaide Fringe this year, born out of the evangelism blaide.live has for the Adelaide Fringe in India.

What’s on:

  • Ritviz Music Producer, Pop Artist, Content Creator
    • Venue: Lion Arts Factory
    • Date: 19th February 2023
    • Ritviz Srivastava, – This Classically trained musician-turned-producer, has a unique hybrid sound that is an effortless blend of Hindustani classical, hip-hop, pop and electronica.
    • Headlining music festivals throughout India, his tracks have streamed over 1.5 billion times, making him the highest streamed Indian Indie artist on Spotify India and the second highest globally.
    • His track ‘Udd Gaye’ became everyone’s favourite party anthem in 2018 followed by ‘Sage’, ‘Liggi’, ‘Jeet’ and ‘Thandi Hawa’, two of which were incorporated in Marvel & Disney’s ‘Ms Marvel’ while his original composition ‘Aavegi’ was featured in the finale.
    • Bringing his unique emotion stirring melodies to Adelaide Fringe for the first time ever.

 

  • Nush Lewis Multi-instrumentalist, Singer-Songwriter, Composer (one of only three harp players in India)
    • Venues: Various venues around SA
    • Dates: 3rd March – 11th March 2023
    • With moody vocal lines, pensive compositions, combined with a unique production ethos, her musicality can best be described as minimal acoustic, with intricate melodic lines set upon ephemeral soundscapes.
    • Donning multiple hats, as a composer and singer/songwriter, she collaborated with producer Ayan De in 2015 and released her debut EP “Fused”, which was critically acclaimed. In April 2019 she released her second EP, “Bridges”, which is an art collaborative concept piece with artist Vaishnavi Kumar.
    • An avid advocate for music and the arts, in 2017, Nushstarted her own music education company, OffSet Education, that directly supports music education and creative development with support from their respective industries, and has been generating tremendous support since its inception.
    • As a part of the Showcase, Nush is performing her one hour set at a range of unique South Australian venues.

 

  • Karan Singh Magic Mentalist/Illusionist
    • Venue: The Kingfisher, Gluttony, Rymill Park (7:20 pm daily)
    • Dates: 28th February – 5th March 2023
    • Karan Singh, magician and illusionist, is known for his personal, interactive and non-gimmicky shows. He uses his easy charm and sense of humour to completely disarm his audience. With over 50 million online views, and 1200+ digital shows performed during Covid lockdowns, expect sleight of hand, mind reading and beyond. Karan has to be seen to be believed.
    • Karan has outfoxed some of the world’s greatest magicians, including Derren Brown, Dynamo and Penn & Teller. Appearing for the first time at Adelaide Fringe.

  • Nishant SuriStand-Up Comedian/Content Creator
    • Venue: The Parks Theatre, Angle Park (Hindi language content)
    • Date: 4th March 2023
    • Winner of Amazon Prime Video India’s comedy show Comicstaan, Nishant’s popularity on YouTubeand Instagram are testimony to the growing love and admiration for his brand of ‘existential’ comedy.
    • Four years, many tours, a pandemic, a quarter-life crisis and a heartbreak later, he continues to take his perspective on everything from societyto the human condition itself across the world.
    • Is life anything but suffering? Is happiness a trap? And do we really need to save the planet for future generations to witness this vicious cycle?
    • Watch him go berserk with his speculative theories, anecdotes and observations.
    • You may call it silly, bizarre or genius. Depends on how you’re looking at it, says Nishant. All he asks is for you to come see the world through his eyes and decide for yourselves.
    • Nishant is also participating in 6 other experimental (English comedy) shows as part of his collaboration with comedians from Australia, performing a fresh set in English with ‘Boats and Bogans‘ and ‘The Racist Immigrants

About the Producer:

blaide.live is an idea conceived out of relocation, when Manish Chandnani, born and raised in Mumbai, India moved to Adelaide with his young family in 2019.

Manish has over a decade of experience running Music Festivals and large format public events in India, including one of India’s biggest music festivals, the Bacardi NH7 Weekender, from its inception 13 years ago.

He has worked with numerous artists across music, stand-up comedy and variety entertainment, including  A R Rahman, Megadeth, Karnivool, Jinja Safari, Mute Math, Russell Peters, Norah Jones, David Guetta, The Prodigy, Bill Burr, Eddie Izzard, and Zakir Khan to name a few.

With his career deeply rooted in music, arts and culture, he is passionate about linking both worlds and the Indian Independent Showcase at the Adelaide Fringe 2023 is an attempt at that.

blaide.live has received support from the Adelaide Fringe Artist Fund Program, The City of PAE, The City of Charles Sturt and MILAAP (Multicultural Initiative for Linking All Australian People).
