Kanan Gill is an Indian stand-up comedian who rose to fame with the YouTube series,
‘Pretentious Movie Reviews’ where he reviews flawed yesteryear Bollywood films in a
hilarious manner.

His partner-in-comedy in running this widely popular series is his fellow stand-up comedian Biswa Kalyan Rath. The duo had stirred up a storm in the YouTube scenario in the Indian subcontinent with their over-the-top commentaries and super-funny personalities.

They reviewed some popular movies such as ‘Gunday,’ ‘Hum Saath Saath
Hain’, ‘Prem Aggan’, and ‘Aap ka Suroor’ which earned them a large fan following in
movie-crazy India.

A software engineer by profession, Gill found unbelievable fame in a totally unrelated field.

He quit his engineering job to focus fully on his career as a comedian, and divided his work between Live stand-up shows, creating content and working with brands. As of June 2019, this hugely popular comic star has 704k subscribers on his YouTube channel, 68M+ views on YouTube, 339k followers on his Instagram account, 407K followers on Facebook and 819k followers on Twitter.

From a young age, Kanan Gill was a funny kid who loved to joke around and play pranks.

However, born into a typical Indian family, there was no doubt in his mind that he would one day pursue a conventional career that would guarantee stability. After high school he chose to study computer engineering though he never lost his love for comedy.

During his college days he became a part of comedy bands and spent his leisure time writing silly songs. Once he graduated, he took up a cushy job as a software engineer in Exeter Group Inc.

His rising popularity in India soon gained him International notice as well and Kanan Gill got a chance to work in an improvised sketch comedy show, ‘The Living Room,’ on the American channel Comedy Central. He also co-hosted the YouTube FanFest India and was one of the main personalities behind the YouTube Comedy Hunt. Ambitious to achieve even more, Kanan Gill ventured into Bollywood Films in 2017 with a major role in the Sonakshi Sinha starrer movie ‘Noor.’

Kanan then went on to write his Stand Up Special, ‘Keep It Real’ for Amazon Prime Video which was released globally on Amazon Prime Video on 26th May 2017. In this hilarious one hour comedy special, Kanan Gill squints at a variety of subjects ranging from the difficulty in talking to your parents to The Constitution of India. It’s easy to keep it funny, Kanan keeps it real.

As a content creator, Kanan has worked closely with legacy brands to create content for
them. One such content series that Kanan created, was for Bacardi groups Premium Whisky brand Dewars- ‘I Can Do That’. A web series where Kanan is the host of the show, where he spends a week shadowing and learning the skills of multiple disciplines, from icons from different fields – musicians, filmmakers, chefs, and more.

Every episode introduces a profession, an expert from an unconventional field of creative arts, performance arts, media or alternative professions. Part conversation, part hands-on training, each homogenous narrative, that showcased the hardships of becoming a pro with clever wit, while engaging with a captive audience.

Kanan also judged India’s first Comedy Reality Show, ‘Comicstaan’ alongwith the top
comedians in India, namely Abish Matthew, Biswa K Rath, Kaneez Surka, Kenny Sebastian, Naveen Richards, Sapan Verma, Sumukhi Suresh & Tanmay Bhat. Comicstaan released on Amazon Prime Video in September 2018 and gave India’s upcoming comedians a launch into the nascent yet growing Stand Up Comedy industry.

In 2018, Kanan along with fellow comedian, Kenny Sebastian, co-wrote and created India’s one of a kind live Sketch Comedy Show, ‘Sketchy Behaviour’, which toured across India and was later recorded for Amazon Prime Video. It was released globally on Amazon Prime Video on 14th Feb 2019.

Kanan has toured extensively across the world. In 2019, Kanan Gill embarks on a world
Tour with his Stand-up special “Teetar” across India, Singapore, Hong Kong, Dubai, Doha, Bangkok, Vietnam, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands & North America. He also performed 3 Headlining Solo Shows at the prestigious Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2019 and did solo shows at the Sydney Comedy Festival, Perth Comedy Festival & Brisbane.
