LIGHT RAIL WRAPPED TO BE HOSTING T20 WORLD CUP

Cricket fans heading to the SCG tomorrow night for Australia’s first clash in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 are being reminded that public transport travel is included in all match-day tickets.

Minister for Sport Alister Henskens said the time has come again for Sydney to put on a show for the rest of the world, with the Light Rail at Moore Park decked out in T20 World Cup branding ahead of the tournament’s arrival in Sydney.

“The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 is cricket’s most exciting tournament and Sydneysiders are going to be treated to the best of the best right here in their backyard,” Mr Henskens said.

“The atmosphere at the SCG tomorrow night when the Aussies take on the Kiwis will be incredible and it’s another example of Sydney’s undeniable ability to host major international sporting tournaments.”

The SCG will host seven matches during the tournament including the sold-out clash between Australia and New Zealand tomorrow night.

Minister for Transport, Veterans and Western Sydney David Elliott said Sydney’s public transport system has cricket fans covered with integrated transport for all match-day tickets.

“We want as many cricket fans to travel to and from matches on public transport with ease, while having as much fun as possible,” Mr Elliott said.

“Playing on home soil has its perks but there’s no doubt that the roaring fans will be the difference when the Aussies back up their World Champions title defence.”

Minister for Tourism Ben Franklin said it is going to be an electrifying atmosphere for Sydney sport lovers and those who have travelled to be part of the action.

“The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will showcase Sydney as a world-class city and major events destination,” Mr Franklin said.

“Events like the T20 World Cup are key to the vitality of Sydney and make a significant contribution to our local economy by attracting thousands of fans and players to our State, who stay in our hotels, visit our attractions and spend in our retail, dining and hospitality businesses.”

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 Local Organising Committee CEO Michelle Enright said she can’t wait to see fans filling the iconic SCG stands on Saturday night for the opening match of the Super 12.

“The NSW Government has been instrumental in their support to ensure fans can get to and from the match safely and at no additional cost,” Ms Enright said.

“While there are no more tickets remaining for Saturday night, we encourage fans to secure their seats to other matches in Sydney, including the Semi-Final on 9 November.”

Transport for NSW advise public transport is the best way to get to the SCG with plenty of transport options available, including trains, light rail and buses.
