The 2022 hockey season in NSW is almost underway, but there’s still time to find a local club and get involved in a competition or program.

Hockey is an inclusive sport for everyone, with people of all ages, genders and backgrounds welcome to play. There are local competitions all across NSW, both in Sydney and also in many regional areas such as Newcastle, Wollongong, Wagga Wagga, Coffs Harbour and others.

To find your local hockey venue or to register for any upcoming junior clinics or programs visit the Hockey NSW website.

Hockey NSW will also be running a number of free multicultural events throughout the year for the Indian community to get involved in. On April 19 at Sydney Olympic Park, there will be a brand-new Little League of Nations event for primary-school aged children to try out hockey, learn new skills and play in some modified, small-sided games.

In September, the highly-anticipated League of Nations competition will return for the second time after COVID caused the cancellation of the event in 2021. Teams from India, Pakistan, the Netherlands, England and many other countries took part in the inaugural competition in 2020, and Hockey NSW is encouraging people from all different backgrounds to nominate a team and take part in the fun, free tournament.

To register for these events or nominate a team, please visit the Hockey NSW website (www.hockeynsw.com.au) and view their Event Calendar.

Recently, Hockey NSW also announced the exciting appointment of local Indian player Sonny Chadha as an elected Director to their Board.

Sonny has been involved in hockey for over 40 years in Sydney, London and Singapore, and is a current Hockey NSW Multicultural Ambassador. He plays for Ryde Hunters Hill Hockey Club and has also represented NSW in Masters Hockey.

With over 20 years of experience and success in commercial areas like technology, eCommerce and logistics, Sonny brings a lot of knowledge and passion to the Board and will help promote and engage multicultural communities in the sport.
