Minister for Transport Gladys Berejiklian today said 24 more new free and untimed car parking spaces would be provided for customers at Rockdale, as part of the NSW Government’s Transport Access Program.
“We’ve heard the strong message from customers that they want more parking near stations and interchanges, and we are delivering projects to provide the infrastructure to improve the daily commute,” Ms Berejiklian said.
“We want to make it easier and more convenient for customers to access the Rockdale interchange and encourage the use of public transport. We are also looking at how we can provide even more parking for Rockdale customers in the future.”
A tender for delivery of the additional commuter car parking on Geeves Lane will be released shortly to ensure a contractor is on board ready to commence construction as soon as possible, she said.
Member for Rockdale John Flowers, who was joined by Ms Berejiklian at Rockdale today, said the construction of the car park was an important win for the community.
“This is an important transport hub for southern Sydney commuters, and I will keep advocating for more spaces for the community,” said Mr Flowers.
“This fantastic project will benefit customers who want to park right next to Rockdale Station – another 24 spaces will take the total to around 150 car parking spaces.”
There will be three new accessible parking spaces included in the extra spaces.
Ms Berejiklian also visited Arncliffe Station today with Mr Flowers, who continued his strong campaign on behalf of the local community to have lifts installed.
“I appreciate the hard work the local member is doing on behalf of his community and assure customers we are working as quickly as possible to complete as many projects as we can after so many years of under-investment by the last government,” she said.
The improvements are just some of the upgrades being delivered for southern Sydney customers as part of the Transport Access Program including improvements to the transport interchange at Arncliffe Station.
