Extra trains and trams as well as normal NightRider buses will run all night to help get people home from White Night Melbourne on 22 February this year.
Minister for Public Transport Terry Mulder said that no matter what time attendees left the all-night festival, public transport would get them home.
“We want customers to have the best White Night Melbourne experience, which is why we are putting on lots of extra trains and trams to run throughout the night,” Mr Mulder said.
“More than 370 extra train and tram services will run throughout the night, departing from Melbourne’s CBD every half hour throughout the night.”
Mr Mulder said planning ahead is crucial for customers to get the most out of their night.
“Passengers should top up their myki in advance and plan their journey on the PTV website before they leave home. They can also pick up a handy public transport guide, which will be available at train stations and on board trams and buses from mid-February,” Mr Mulder said
Flinders Street Station will be the only city train station open after the finish of normal timetabled services around 1.00am.
At the end of normal Saturday services, City Loop stations will close. Trains will provide outbound trips every half an hour, running direct from Flinders Street Station to get passengers home. NightRider buses will provide both inbound and outbound trips all night.
Between 7pm and 7am, major city roads will be closed. Trams will terminate at stops within walking distance of Swanston Street and St Kilda Road. Buses will terminate at an east hub on Exhibition Street and a west hub on Queen Street.
“The operating cost of running all night trains and trams for 24 hours is very high, but the Victorian Coalition Government believes it is worth it for special events such as White Night Melbourne,” Mr Mulder said.
“With public transport running all night, there is no need to leave the city early. Instead, stay a bit later and enjoy everything the White Night festival has to offer.

White Night Melbourne will see the city transform into 11 precincts between 7pm on Saturday 22 February and 7am on Sunday 23 February.
The precincts will provide a range of entertainment including exhibitions, street performances, film screenings and concerts.
After arriving in Melbourne’s CBD, White Night Melbourne is best explored on foot. City Loop trains will also be available until midnight for those wanting to travel between precincts.
Public transport travel across Zones 1 and 2 is capped at $6 on Saturdays and Sundays. Paseengers who touch on their mykis after 6pm on Saturday 22 February can travel within their zone for the same myki two hour fare until 3am on Sunday morning.
Passengers can plan their journey at www.ptv.vic.gov.au or by calling Public Transport Victoria on 1800 800 007 from 6am – midnight daily.
