President Pranab Mukherjee will inaugurate the National Agricultural Expo “Krishi Vasant” in Nagpur Sunday during his two-day visit to Maharashtra, starting Feb 8.
Over 500,000 farmers from all over India will take part in the five-day long agro fair-cum-expo organised jointly by the union ministry of agriculture, Maharashtra government and the Confederation of Indian Industry at the Central Institute for Cotton Research, Nagpur.
Besides the participation of half a million farmers at the mega-event — described as the “Maha Kumbh” of agriculture, another five million farmers shall view it on webcasts and other means of communication.
The event, to be held Feb 9-13, will have over a 1,000 stalls and demonstrations with 307 varieties of 54 different types of crop types on exhibit, besides interactive sessions with scientists and experts in regional languages.
Sunday, he will travel to Gondia to attend the annual day celebrations of the Gondia Education Society, run by union Heavy Industries Minister Praful Patel.
Prior to this, Mukherjee will Saturday launch the diamond jubilee of Mumbai’s famed KC College and inaugurate the 150th anniversary celebrations of the prestigious Advocates Association of Western India.
The president will visit the Historical Heritage Central Court Hall of Court No. 52 at the Bombay High Court building in south Mumbai.
The Court No.52, is famous as “Chief Justice M.C. Chagla’s Court”, after the legendary jurist who became the first Indian chief justice of the Bombay High Court after Independence and held the position for 10 years.
Maharashtra Governor K. Sankaranarayanan will receive Mukherjee at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport Saturday afternoon, an official Raj Bhavan announcement said here.
