Bushfires or Forest fires are a common occurrence during the spring and summer season in Australia, which lasts from September to March. However in 2019-20, the scale of bushfires has been unprecedented as reported by BBC.

“Since September 2019, blazes have killed at least 33 people, destroyed over 2,100 homes and burnt through 11 million hectares of land – an area almost the size of England”.

In the worst-hit state, New South Wales (NSW), fire has affected more than five million hectares, destroying more than 2,000 houses and forcing thousands to seek shelter elsewhere.

They have also led to disruption of local businesses, schools, farms and other community properties. It is also estimated that the fires have led to the death of about 1 Billion animals and reptiles and many species are expected to go extinct.

The devastation has led to mammoth support from the Australian community as well as international community  to help the affected folks through monetary donations as well as labour to provide relief.

Volunteers of Sant Nirankari Mission Australia – Sydney Branch had raised more than $20,000 for Bushfire relief works and part of it was spent in providing food, water, toiletry and other essential items to SES. Remaining $19,150 was donated today to “Blacktown City Council Bushfire Appeal” when Hon. Tony Bleasdale, OAM visited Sant Nirankari Mission – Sydney Branch congregation hall – Centre for Oneness in Glendenning on 23 February 2020. Sant Nirankari Mission celebrates 23 February as “Guru Pooja Diwas” to honour present spiritual leader of the mission and recall the teachings of the past and present spiritual leaders of the mission and how it has transformed the life of innumerable devotees.

Volunteers of SNM Sydney branch also contributed  by regularly helping out at different aid relief centres including SES, RFS  by packing relief supplies such as water, clothing, food by taking time out from their busy schedule.

Through their proactive attitude and enthusiasm to support others in need, SNM volunteers have spread the message of love, oneness and of serving others with humility as being taught by our True Master “Her Holiness Sudiksha Ji” who have instilled these values in us through messages such as “Service of Mankind is Service of God” and “Universal Brotherhood through God Realization”.
