Most glamorous film festival in the world along with the biggest film market happens in Cannes every year. This year it is happening in May, 2019 from 14th to 24th of May. While traditionally film makers go there more and more actors are going there to network, promote themselves, meet professional film makers, and most importantly learn about the industry that they want to be part of.
Many Australians from Pallavi Sharda to Zenia Star and Ansuya Nathan are making it as Australians of Indian origin in international film scene. Today we talk to one such Actress who is going to Cannes and making the big move from Modelling to Acting. Simran Gulati after winning all there is to win in terms of beauty pageants is now moving to her passion of Acting.
Her first lucky break has come in before Cannes as she has been nominated as the first Female Ambassador (Australia) for a newly launched web resource Global Indian Talent.
Indus Age sat down with the Beauty Queen, Model and budding Actress; and here is what she had to say:
We would like to Congratulate you on becoming the Global Indian Talent Brand Ambassador; Australia. Can you tell us what is Global Indian Talent?
One of the biggest problem for an actor apart from Talent is being discovered. I don’t know where and when someone would be looking for someone like me. Similarly, a film maker looking for someone like me would not know where to start. Global Indian Talent provides this link at a global level exclusively for Indian and South Asian actors. Global India Talent is a new global web resource tool exclusively for Indians and South Asians actor’s and actresses across the globe. They strive to ensure that you have the highest probability of having your talent discovered with their state of the art talent tool that directors and producers across the globe can access.
Moreover, Global Indian Talent is an initiative backed by an experienced team of film industry professionals from around the world who have the expertise and know how to get your information in the hands of the people that matter both locally and internationally. It’s a showcase of your talent and services, where you learn from the experts, identify exciting opportunities, audition, network with like-minded people, and stay up to date with industry news. They Harness the mélange of years of cinematic experience and work for you to realise your dreams.
How were you discovered by Global Indian Talent and how did you become the Brand Ambassador?
I was Mrs India Australia – 1st runner up 2016 and then went on to win Mrs India Global 2018; therefore, I have been well known in the Beauty Pageant industry across Australia & Asia. I have also had opportunities where I have been invited to judge various beauty pageants across Australia which have given me exposure into other Asian countries and their people. I kept building momentum and have had plenty of opportunities in Modelling; where I have ramp walked for top designers across the globe in various fashion shows the past couple years. The most recent being Fashion of Multicultural Australia, Raw Sydney and Silk Road.
It was during such appearances along with my well known marketing/networking skills which resulted in GIT approaching me, at least that is what they say. During my journey I have met several industry professionals and I have always had a goal to become an Actress and have been very passionate about this for sometime so I have been working towards it for the past 2-3 years. So I was really excited when GIT approached me. Global Indian Talent is something I believe in and it fit’s the mold of what I want to do and feel that this alliance is mutually beneficial.
We hear that you are going to be promoting and marketing Global Indian Talent (GIT) at the Cannes Festival and Global Market in May, you must be really excited?
I am beyond excited to be attending Cannes Film Festival. We have all heard of Cannes Film Festival and how the top talent of Directors, Producers and Actors frequent there every year to showcase their work and now to be the Brand Face and launching Global Indian Talent at the Cannes Film Festival in May is surreal. There are lots and lots of surprises planned which I am unable to share right now but will in due time. Will fill you in with my amazing debut trip to Cannes on the way back.
We hear it’s one of the best time to visit France in May, when the weather is beautiful and sunny. How much time do you plan on spending there?
The weather is going to be pleasant as it’s not quite summer yet so I am excited about that. I will be tied up in appearances, launch and advocacy of Global Indian Talent for most of the time I am there; which is 9 days. However, there are other events, seminars and activities that I will be part of as I am keen to learn about the Film industry and network with top professionals from across the globe.
What are some of your personal goals while attending Cannes Film Festival?
I am a believer that God puts you in position to succeed and learn and that is what my mindset is as I go to Cannes. I believe in Global Indian Talent and their business model and partnering with them and ensuring they succeed is important for my Brand as well as theirs. Also, I look forward to meeting the people from the Film Industry and be inspired by their stories as well as attending seminars to learn how everything ties together before it’s presented to audiences worldwide. All this but most importantly, enjoy and live in the moment. Australia has a strong support for diverse film people and will also be part of Australians at Cannes .
