Chinmaya Mission Australia (Sydney Division); a spiritual organisation based in Castle Hill, has launched its inaugural “No Shoes” campaign encouraging people to ditch their shoes four hours, and participate in activities including walking, running and yoga to raise funds for the disadvantaged.
Whether it is shopping for a pair of new school shoes, comfortable work wear or finding the latest pair of fashionable shoes to wear; footwear is an integral part of our lives.
I don’t think any of us today, can imagine not being able to own a pair of basic footwear, let alone walking bare feet for a minimum of 6km to find clean water to drink, go to school or work on farmland. Unfortunately, millions of disadvantaged people in rural Sri Lanka, India, Asia and Africa do this on a daily basis leading to long term illnesses and injuries.
With a firm focus on giving back to the community, in the right spirit; Chinmaya Mission Sydney’s latest campaign aims to attract all age groups and backgrounds to take a walk on the grass and experience first-hand the very real struggles some people all over the world face on a daily basis.
While most of us in Australia take for granted everyday basic needs, it is a source of privilege for those who are less advantaged. The No Shoes campaign is a chance to walk in the path of a disadvantaged person and raise money to help people in their daily lives at school, work and at home.
Registrations are open with the walk taking place on Sunday, 17 February from 9.30 am until 1.00 pm at Castle Hill Showground.
Funds raised from this year’s campaign will be donated to the Chinmaya Organisation for Rural Development (CORD) to help the disadvantaged in India & Sri Lanka. Find out more about CORD by visiting https://www.noshoes.com.au.
Since its inception 25 years ago CORD has helped more 900 villages and its people to learn skills to earn money to support their families and provided education supplies for students, transforming entire communities
Although our aim to raise $50,000 through sponsorship https://noshoes.raisely.com, we would like the Sydney community to come together for a fantastic noble event, and thus we aim to have a 1,000 people participating in this campaign.
This is a chance for people to sacrifice a few hours from their busy lives to come together as a community and give generously and reflect on the people in developing countries and the struggles they have to contend with every day.
