The list of names of Indian Soldiers on the Cenotaph, unveiled on the 10 November 2018, by the Hindu Council of Australia, is incomplete and incorrect and must be rectified.
There are two ways to correct this problem:
1. Remove the plaque with the names listed on it, and attach a new plaque stating that this
Cenotaph recognizes Soldiers of Indian Origin who served in the Australian Defence Forces.
2. As the research into the names of Soldiers of Indian Origin is ongoing, with no end in sight, this would be the preferred option, however, if your Committee choose to have names on the Cenotaph; the names on the Cenotaph need to be corrected, and any additional names, to be added only after proper historical verification.
In addition to this our organisation will supply names of Soldiers of Indian Origin from our records on an ongoing basis, provided our work is properly acknowledged.
Yours Sincerely, Historians – Len Kenna and Crystal Jordan.
We have been researching and publishing history of Indians in Australia since 1985.
