AASHA AUSTRALIA FOUNDATION hosts Indian senior group on second and fourth Fridays from 11am-2pm.
Activities include:
- 1. Yoga—Gentle yoga exercises and explanation of benefits for health with these exercises. Students will be provided a chance to do simple Yoga exercises with seniors.
- 2. Bollywood music and some English songs on request. Students may prepare from school Indian National Anthem and sing for seniors after the Australian National Anthem.
3 .Bollywood dance if people choose to dance. Students will be provided an opportunity to dance with Seniors or teach some dance steps to seniors
- 4. Indian food –cooked and shared at the centre. Students will be shown how Indian food is cooked and will share the fresh cooked Indian food with the seniors.
Children will get a good understanding of Indian Culture.
On the day students may make Rangoli patterns & Greeting cards
We can pair them with seniors and they can ask questions and share ideas.
They will meet Indian seniors and have a chance to ask them questions. These questions can be pre prepared by your teachers or independently asked by children if they have something in their mind to ask. Topics can be on any area such as:
Transport now and then
- Clothes
- Hobbies
- Food,
- Or on any topics as selected by your teachers
OUTCOMES TO BE ACHIEVED FROM EXCURSION TO SENIORS GROUP
The excursion to Indian seniors group will lead towards helping children establish effective links with their community and develop a deeper understanding of Indian culture and understanding of Hindi.
Successful and responsible children maintaining effective links with their family and community
Preserving and promoting cultural heritage and maintaining effective community links are necessary for individual well-being
