It was a pleasure to celebrate Diwali with my friends in the Indian community when we turned the Sydney Opera House a bright, vibrant gold for the third year running.
It was a spectacular sight and the images of our iconic landmark lit up in gold have made their way back to India and other nations celebrating Diwali as a sign of this Government’s respect and appreciation for the Festival of Lights.
This is a truly uplifting time for Hindu people around the world celebrating the renewal of life that Diwali represents. Here in NSW, the celebrations have been embraced by Hindu and non-Hindu communities who share the values of seeking good over evil.
Diwali is the perfect time for us to recognise the significant and wide-ranging contribution of Hindu communities here in NSW. Your role in the rich diversity of our multicultural state is greatly valued. The lights of Diwali remind us that we must celebrate tolerance and understanding, and banish prejudice and fear.
It is my great pleasure to wish you all a happy and blessed Diwali.
