Parravilla Function Lounge offered a perfect setup for India Sports Club’s Award Presentation Night 2016 on 27th August, 2016. Australian Test wicket keeper/batsman Peter Nevill was the celebrity guest. It was time to recognise the high achievers of the Winter Cricket Competition as well as Badminton competition held on 23rd July at Sports Halls of Sydney Olympic Park.
The other VIP guests included Hon. Dr. Geoff Lee, Member for Parramatta; Hon. Dr. Hugh McDermott, Member for Prospect; Hon. Ms. Jodie McKay, Member for Strathfield ; Cricket NSW officials; President of United Indian Associations Mr. john Kennedy; Mr. S.K. Verma, representative of Indian Consulate in Sydney.
The on-stage interview Raj Natarajan, President of India Sports Club conducted with Peter Navill, Australian Test wicket keeper/batsman provided an insight into the recent disappointing performance of Australian Cricket Team in the recent test series against Sri Lanka. The point of contention in that test series was the delayed stumping by Peter Nevill of Dimuth Karunaratne on day four of the Colombo Test match, which Peter defended and did not agree with the suggestion that it was contrary to the spirit of the game and further he predicted that Australia will regain that number 1 spot in test ranking in the near future.
Function Lounge erupted in cheers and applause as the names of the winners of the badminton competitions were called out to receive their trophies. The noise got louder as Cricket man-of-the-match awards, best batsman & bowler awards as well as winners and runners-up awards were handed over to the proud and enthusiastic players. The subcontinent passion for the game of cricket was very evident.
The audience were entertained to a popular Rajasthani folk song by young traditional dancers from Nrityam dance school. India Sports Club announced the launch of the summer cricket competition starting second week of September. The night was capped off with Peter Navill meeting his fans and signing autographs.
