Australia’s biggest night time shopping event is returning to Sydney, with beauty bars, champagne, catwalks and shopping throughout the CBD on Thursday 1 September. |
Vogue American Express Fashion’s Night Out is expected to bring more than 190,000 shoppers, VIP guests and retailers together to participate in the seventh annual shopping extravaganza that is celebrated this year in 20 countries around the globe.
More than 600 retailers and brands will take part in the one-night-only event by activating their stores with pop-up runways, champagne parties, giveaways, live entertainment, VIPs and celebrity guests. “This event gives focus to, and helps celebrate, Sydney as a global fashion shopping destination which is good for local jobs and good for the economy,” City of Sydney CEO, Monica Barone, said. “Sydney is Australia’s premier retail destination, and Sydney’s retail experience in the city centre is a key attribute of our global city status. “Fashion design, manufacturing and retail businesses strengthen our economy and provide thousands of jobs – that’s why the City is committed to lend its support. “The city centre will be bursting with life on the night, and we encourage people from all over to join in the fun and entertainment.” Vogue American Express Fashion’s Night Out will launch in Hyde Park at 5pm and run across Pitt Street Mall, Martin Place, David Jones, Queen Victoria Building, Strand Arcade, and Castlereagh and Market Streets until10pm. The international fashion event first started in New York City in 2009, designed to celebrate shopping and support the fashion industry during the global financial crisis. The event is now celebrated in shopping capitals across the world from Shanghai and Madrid to Milan and Tokyo. Retail represents more than 7,800 businesses in Sydney. The industry is a major employer and contributes significantly to the local economy – the estimated value of the Sydney retail sector is more than $3 billion per year. |
