Minister for Primary Industries, Lands and Water Niall Blair has announced for the first time residents in Sydney, the Blue Mountains and Illawarra will now be able to access up to date information on drinking water quality in their suburb.
The new online portal is the first of its kind in Australia and allows customers to see how drinking water safety measures are performing in their local area in real time.
“Sydney’s drinking water is amongst the world’s best and now we are leading the way in providing customers with transparent and timely information about their local drinking water supply,” Mr Blair said.
“It is fantastic that customers will now be able to see how we monitor every drop of Sydney’s drinking water at key steps from catchment to tap and ensure it’s safe for them to drink straight from the tap.
“This world-class system is possible because of the highly skilled and dedicated Sydney Water and WaterNSW employees who work around the clock to deliver safe and high quality drinking water to customers every day of the year.”
NSW Health provides advice on drinking water quality and oversees Sydney Water’s and WaterNSW’s delivery of water to ensure it meets the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.
Water quality scientists carry out up to 70 different types of laboratory tests every day to ensure drinking water quality is safe to drink and in line with drinking water guidelines.
