FIRMS SHORTLISTED TO CONSTRUCT WESTERN SYDNEY STADIUM

A brand new sporting stadium for Western Sydney is a step closer with three private sector consortia shortlisted to deliver the venue on the site of the existing Parramatta Stadium.

Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres said Brookfield Mulitplex, John Holland and Lendlease had been shortlisted following the NSW Government’s call for an Expression of Interest from the private sector last month.

“This was a very competitive process and we have received an excellent response from the market to deliver the first of the major projects planned for Sydney’s second CBD,” Mr Ayres said.

“These shortlisted parties combine the best of local design and construction talent with international sports expertise to produce a world class stadium for Western Sydney.”

“After years of lagging behind the other major states in sporting and major events infrastructure, NSW is getting on with the job of putting us back in front.”

The 30,000 seat venue will be the first project delivered in the NSW Government’s stadia strategy and replace the current Parramatta Stadium built in 1986.

Mr Ayres said formal requests for tender will be issued shortly with the winning consortium expected to be announced later this year.

“A stage one planning application will be submitted shortly followed by a period of community and stakeholder consultation to enable the community to find out more about the plans for the new Stadium and provide feedback,” Mr Ayres added.

The successful contractor will be responsible for obtaining stage two planning approval.

Construction will start in early 2017 following demolition of the current stadium.

The new Western Sydney Stadium will open in 2019.
