Member for Parramatta, Geoff Lee said the NSW Government’s commitment to build a $5 million pedestrian bridge across Pennant Hills Road near Masons Drive at North Parramatta is one step closer.
Residents are being asked to lodge their feedback by 22 April 2016.
“With thousands of motorists using the road every day, including heavy vehicles, the pedestrian bridge will improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists and minimise traffic flow stoppages” said Geoff.
Roads and Maritime Services is proposing to build the bridge with 5.8 metres clearance, about 15 metres west of Masons Drive.
“There are four schools nearby including Redeemer Baptist School, The Kings School, Tara Anglican School for Girls and Burnside Public School so the bridge would be used regularly by school children, staff and parents,” added Dr Lee.
“The pedestrian bridge would have both stairs and lifts so it is accessible to all community members and the existing pedestrian crossing on the western side of the intersection would be removed”.
The plan includes fencing to direct pedestrians to cross the road safely using the bridge.
The heritage fence posts near the Burnside shopping village and Redeemer Baptist School would be carefully removed during work and replaced once completed to ensure their safety and preservation.
Feedback is being sought before Friday 22 April on the proposal and will be used to inform the Review of Environmental Factors, which is expected to be displayed for further comment later this year.
