SAVVY SENIORS EXERCISE THEIR CONSUMER RIGHTS

NSW Fair Trading is helping seniors to “Grow Young” by protecting their consumer rights as they celebrate the 2016 NSW Seniors Festival.

With broad responsibility across many areas of daily life NSW Fair Trading assists seniors to successfully navigate their rights in a rapidly changing marketplace.

NSW Fair Trading Commissioner Rod Stowe said Fair Trading is committed to supporting seniors with up-to-date information and regular community events.

Last financial year Fair Trading delivered more than 300 events to 10,500 seniors across the state.

“Our research showed the seniors who attended our events significantly increased their consumer knowledge and were less likely to fall victim to a scam,” Mr Stowe said.

“Where a problem hasn’t been able to be resolved directly with a trader, Fair Trading helps with everything from chasing up suppliers who haven’t delivered the curtains you’ve ordered to negotiating with builders who damaged your property.

“We regularly engage with seniors all over NSW on a whole range of issues. During the Seniors Festival alone there are more than 30 Fair Trading events for seniors ranging from an information session at Boggabri to a lifestyle expo in Nowra.”

Fair Trading produces the popular Seniors Guide to consumer rights in NSW, freely available on the Fair Trading website. Fair Trading is also distributing information through Service NSW at the Premier’s Gala Concerts.
