Delhi Congress chief Arvinder Singh Lovely Thursday lashed out at the Aam Aadmi Party government over its handling of the rape case of the 51-year-old Danish woman in the capital.
“Is this the same party that used to protest on the streets of Delhi? And today, the party’s chief minister is saying that he will get a study conducted to know why such cases are happening. Now he is thinking of studies when the responsibility falls on him,” Lovely said, referring to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Lovely also asked whether he (Kejriwal) was the same person who once used to target former chief minister Sheila Dikshit for “coming up with an excuse for every issue”.
“This is a very weird situation,” he said.
Lovely said he was not keen on doing a comparison but wants to shake-up their souls.
“We never played politics over something like rape. We will write to not only the chief minister, but also to the home minister and the Lt. Governor, to ensure that maximum investigation is done in this case by police and strict punishment is meted out to the culprits,” the Congress leader added.
The Danish woman, who came to India Jan 1, was robbed and raped by eight men near the New Delhi railway station Tuesday.
