An Indian was arrested at the Sharjah International Airport in the UAE for trying to smuggle an undeclared amount of gold to India, police said.
The suspect – identified as Gh.R.A – tried to evade the airport authorities by concealing 12 gold biscuits, weighing 699 gm, inside two bracelets, Gulf News quoted police as saying.
The accused did not declare the gold to the airport authorities to escape tax payment in India. He confessed to using fraudulent means.
Indian Customs allows male passengers to carry gold worth up to Rs.50,000, while for female passengers the limit is at Rs.100,000.
