Ban on porn: A restriction or an invitation.

By:Mihir

CaptureThe government ordered a ban on Internet porn sites. Acting on the order, ISP

(internet service providers) in India, blocked 850 websites without any information

to its users. People got to know about this after they tried to access the sites and

they were disappointed when it displayed a blank screen instead of the sleazy porn

stuff. The government has put forward different reasons for this action like

women’s safety and easy access to such sites by children.

This step by the government is doubtful to help. People are taking it in a personal

way as it harm their personal liberty. Restriction on such sites only will generate

more curiosity in masses.

If we look into the Indian history there are many such cases of films and

documentaries like the ‘fifty shades of grey’ the novel with the movie, ‘Fire’ – film

by Deepa Mehta, the documentary ‘India’s daughter’ which were restricted and

abandoned for Indian population, but the restrictions proved to be the reason for

the popularity of such stuff and were accessed by majority of Indians.

Behavior of most of the people is inquisitive and they tend to do what they are

asked not to do. Taking it as a challenge they take every possible way to complete

the task. Banning something generates curiosity in people, which results in the stuff

getting the most searched on the Internet.

If the government wants to stop criminal activity against women then they will

have to take different measure which do not harm personal liberty of any person.

Because internet is vast and full of techniques which can give them access to

banned sites and it is even viral on internet now.

Caring for security is a good thing but security should not interfere with personal

space.
