The Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO), Sydney North West Chapter, have been working for the past six years to help the underprivileged and poor. It has raised significant funds that have been donated to organizations that cater to the underprivileged in India and Australia. The success of their yearly charity events is a result of the commitment and support of GOPIO North West’s sponsors, partners and the team members.
The Samaritans have been personally delivering products and items for bettering the lives of the impoverished and disadvantaged. For the last few years GOPIO team members; Prof. Balkar Singh Kang, Harmohan Singh Walia and Sumit Joshi have been personally delivering basic amenities, such as warm cloths, water cooler, sports items to underprivileged children of Government Middle School of village Wara Poh Windia (Punjab), Govt Primary School Shahwala Zira (Punjab) and Govt. school, village Chundiala, Distt. Ambala (Haryana). In 2014, the team supported a high school student Manoj Mahajan of Gurdaspur to procure prosthetic legs. The young boy belonged to a poor family who also lost their bread earner in an accident.
The team has been consistently achieving their fundraising goals year on year. The team announced that they have supported more than 2000 underprivileged school children in remote areas of Punjab & Haryana, India.
The welfare organization has also done fantastic work within Sydney community. Their ‘Social Responsibility’ strategy is aimed at enabling underprivileged for a better future and also to create awareness in the community.
The organization has assisted an old age-care facility RAINS, Blue Mountain bush fire victims, Nepal earthquake victims, an underprivileged cancer patient in India and a young widow in Australia with financial aids.
The association evaluates every opportunity to help and support the needy individuals locally and internationally. GOPIO North West’s Caring & Sharing events offer the great opportunity to raise awareness for underprivileged children and individuals in the community.
GOPIO North West team events have produced and are committed to create right social values and harmony in the society. The team members Prof. Balkar Kang (President), Neeru Singh, Aman Singh, Amrit Buttar, Tia Singh, Harmohan Walia, Paramjit Multani, Sumit Joshi (secretary), Raj Singh, Baljit Pelia, Jaswinder Singh Sandhu, Sanjit Hooda and Ravi Singh are motivated individuals who are dedicated towards making the lives of underprivileged individuals better.
The Team’s ‘Annual 6th Caring & Sharing’ event has been planned on 19th September 2015 at Bowman Hall, Blacktown to raise funds for the underprivileged. There will also be an entertainment show which is expected to draw large number of patrons who will support the cause.
