As hundreds of fans gathered outside Salman Khan’s suburban Bandra residence here, singing songs, dancing and even bursting crackers to celebrate his homecoming after being granted bail in a 2002 hit-and-run case, the Bollywood superstar waved out to the waiting crowd.
The Bombay High Court on Friday suspended the “Dabangg” actor’s five-year jail sentence and granted him bail after a lower court had convicted him and sentenced him.
Upon his return to his home after he completed all bail formalities, Salman received a hero’s welcome from fans, who flocked outside his Galaxy Apartments home.
Fans were seen bursting crackers — much as they do when his films turn out to be blockbusters — and they danced with joy — this Friday too!
Dressed in a crisp white shirt, and with his sunshades eclipsing the emotions in his eyes, Salman came out on the balcony of his apartment, and waved to his fans as a gesture of his gratefulness for their ceaseless support during his film journey as well as trying times.
Also seen along with Salman were his father and prolific writer Salim, mother Salma, brother Arbaaz and sister Arpita — all of whom have stood by his side in the case. Salma, who also fell ill on Wednesday, when the five-year jail term was announced for Salman, stood arm in arm with her son. Resting on his shoulder, the mother looked relieved and at peace.
Earlier in the day, a disturbed 32-year-old man, G. Kundu, who claimed to be a Salman fan, attempted suicide by consuming poison and distributed a purported suicide note outside the high court. He was rushed to a hospital.
