ABC Oxfam Nepal Earthquake Appeal raises $4.77 million

ABC managing director Mark Scott has announced that the ABC Oxfam Nepal Earthquake Appeal has raised $4.77 4million since Tuesday, April 28.

“This is a great effort from our audiences and everyone at the ABC in helping the people of Nepal recover and rebuild from the earthquake that caused so much havoc and loss of life,” Mr Scott said. “In particular I’d like to acknowledge the work done by ABC journalists and crews on the ground in Nepal who gave audiences here at home a true sense of the scale of the disaster.

“As I said when we raised money for the Pacific region after Tropical Cyclone Pam hit Vanuatu and its neighbours, the ABC has the ability to highlight and focus fundraising efforts both quickly and effectively. We have demonstrated that ability once again.”

The funds raised through the ABC Oxfam Nepal Earthquake Appeal will deliver to the people of Nepal critical assistance in these first few weeks in the form of clean water, medical and emergency supplies vital to Nepalese families as they begin to rebuild.  Other charities listed on the ABC Appeals website also reported strong levels of donations over the last week.

Donations can still be made at Oxfam.org.au or your preferred overseas aid agency. Alternatively go toabc.net.au/appeals for a comprehensive list of accredited Australian based agencies working on relief in Nepal.
