HELP PROTECT YOURSELF AGAINST CRIME

5The Victoria Police Community Safety Division has developed factsheets with tips to help people protect themselves from crime.

The resources are focused on some of the most common crimes in Victoria including vehicle theft, theft from vehicles and home burglaries.

Safer Communities Unit Inspector Zorka Dunstan said there were simple steps that people could take to help improve their personal and home security.

“Many property based offences such as theft and burglary are opportunistic and can be avoided by simply locking doors and windows or removing valuables from sight,” she said.

“Our crime prevention resources are designed to enable community members to take a stand against crime by giving them information and guidance.

“By keeping people informed about the risks, we hope people will take steps to make themselves and their families safer.”

The factsheets are available in English, Arabic, Greek, Italian, Macedonian and Vietnamese and cover the following topics:
– preventing theft from and of motor vehicles
– preventing number plate theft
– preventing burglaries at home and during holidays
– protecting yourself from online crime
– protecting yourself from theft in public
– personal safety on a night out
