In what could be considered the resurrection of an erstwhile ‘Janata Parivar’ icon, schools in Uttar Pradesh have been directed to declare Friday a holiday on account of the birth anniversary of late prime minister Chandra Shekhar.
A note from a principal of a school in Noida to parents on Thursday evening said that the Uttar Pradesh education department has issued a circular dated April 16 which stated: “It is declared that April 17 will remain a holiday on account of late Chandra Shekhar’s birth anniversary.”
This comes after the coming together of six parties of the Janata “arivar.
Chnadra Shekhar served as prime minister from November 1990 to June 1991. He headed a minority government supported by the Congress for 117 days.
