Community groups receive road safety grants

HarveyThe State Government has handed out almost $14,000 to metropolitan regional groups as part of the latest round of the Road Safety Community Grants Program.

 

Road Safety Minister Liza Harvey said 13 organisations were awarded grants to fund events and projects to develop and implement local road safety projects.

 

Mrs Harvey praised the dedicated efforts of local communities towards road safety.

 

“A key component of the Government’s road safety strategy, Towards Zero, is to encourage safe road use to the public and integrate behaviour change through the promotion of a shared responsibility on Western Australian roads,” she said.

 

“These road projects assist in the prevention of road crashes causing death and serious injury by fostering widespread support and participation in the community.

 

“These events and projects are great advocates for road safety at a grassroots level.”

 

The successful recipients and projects are:

  • Avon Football Association ($1,300):  ‘Drink Driving – It’s Never OK’ football round event
  • Grass Valley Progress Association ($600):  Anzac Day Gunfire Breakfast event
  • Bindoon Historical Society ($1,000):  Bindoon Historic Vehicle Day event
  • Shire of Victoria Plains ($500):  New Norcia Blessing of the Roads event
  • Shire of Chittering ($2,600):  ‘Wear Ya Wellies’ and the ‘Taste of Chittering 2015’ events
  • Northampton District Agricultural Society Inc ($1,000):  98th Annual Northampton Show event
  • The Burmese Catholic Community of WA Inc ($1,000):  Easter Dinner and Dance 2015 event
  • Upper Great Southern Hockey Association ($1,300): State Country Men vs Ugha President XI event
  • Southern Districts Dressage Club ($500):  Celebration of Horses and Music event
  • WA Women Motorcycle Riders Inc ($500):  International Female Ride Day 2015 event
  • City of Armadale RoadWise Advisory Group ($1,000): Blessing of the Roads community safety awareness event
  • Propel Youth Arts WA ($1,000):  KickstART Festival (National Youth Week) event
  • Northern Regions Football Council ($1,300):  Northern Regions Colts Carnival event.

The Road Trauma Trust Account has allocated $360,000 in 2014-15 towards the grants program for projects that promote road safety and focus on the Safe System approach that aligns with the Towards Zero strategy.
