5 MILLION TO BUILD PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE OVER PENNANT HILLS ROAD

1 125Minister for Roads and Freight Duncan Gay and Member for Parramatta Geoff Lee today
announced $5 million in funding to build a pedestrian bridge over Pennant Hills Road at North
Parramatta.
This is a vital safety link to connect Burnside Public School, Redeemer Baptist School, Tara
and The Kings School with shops and facilities along Pennant Hills Road.
“The pedestrian bridge will make it easier and safer for the many students who cross this
intersection daily to get to and from school.
Mr Gay said, “As a Roads Minister, nothing is more important than road safety – and this yet another
reminder the NSW Baird Government is committed to making it safer for children to cross
roads,”
Work to conduct a traffic study will begin within months – the first step in delivering this vital
piece of infrastructure.
“The crossing will also reduce congestion on the busy Pennant Hills Road by reducing the
number of times the crossing lights need to be used – we would also look at replacing the
current traffic light-controlled pedestrian crossing.”
Mr Lee said he was proud the Baird Government was delivering vital infrastructure and safer
roads in Parramatta.
The community has been asking for this pedestrian bridge for years and I am delighted to
announce work is due to start shortly on this much needed road safety project.
Since March 2011 – right across Parramatta the Baird Government has been making our
roads safer.
We have installed flashing lights at every school in the Parramatta local government area and
every school in the state will have a set by the end of the year
