The NSW unemployment rate has remained at or below the national average for 15 straight months, with 26,400 full-time jobs created in NSW last month.
Treasurer Andrew Constance, said, “the ABS Labour Force figures released today show the state unemployment rate remained steady in February at 6.3 per cent”. Mr Constance added , “In Labor’s last term of government, the NSW unemployment rate was below the national average on seven occasions. Since the 2011 election, it’s been at or below the national average 35 times,”
That shows just how badly Labor lagged on the jobs front, under which we had the lowest employment growth of any state, and an economy that was ranked last in the country.
Under the Baird Government, the NSW economy is where it should be – number one.
Pleasingly, today’s job numbers show NSW was the only State to create full-time jobs, with 26,400 added in February.
Overall, we have created 136,000 jobs since coming to office, with initiatives like our Jobs Action Plan giving business the confidence to hire additional staff through payroll tax relief.
We’re driving economic growth through housing, with around 52,000 homes approved in NSW last year.
Our retail sales figures are the strongest in the nation, and consumer confidence remains high – well above the national average.
NSW is setting the pace nationally in terms of economic growth, but we want to take it to the next level.
That’s why our $20 billion Rebuilding NSW plan is so important to ensure we further boost infrastructure, grow the economy by $300 billion and create an extra 100,000 jobs.
Traffic queues and crowded trains are costing the NSW economy up to $8.8 billion a year and the Baird Government will tackle this head-on through Rebuilding NSW.
“Labor’s solution is to cancel infrastructure and tax business to death.”
