Local community safety received a boost today after the Liberal National Government awarded more than $679,000 in crime prevention grants.
Police Minister Liza Harvey said 32 community organisations and local governments would receive grants for projects which had significant crime prevention benefits.
“The Liberal National Government has funded 10 CCTV projects in this round of funding which will target crime hotspots and help prosecute criminals,” Mrs Harvey said.
The Minister said 23 other organisations had successfully applied for projects that were a high priority for crime prevention initiatives.
“These projects target violence prevention, engage at risk youth and promote community engagement and crime prevention messages,” she said.
Crime prevention priorities include:
prevention and early intervention to address the needs of children and families
youth justice and reducing re-offending
preventing and responding to antisocial behaviour
addressing and reducing drug and alcohol related crime.
Mrs Harvey said the Liberal National Government was dedicated to making our communities safer through tough laws and providing police and other organisations with the resources they needed to combat crime and anti-social behaviour.
