Deputy Premier and Minister for the Arts, Troy Grant, has welcomed the reappointment of the Hon Helen Coonan and Peter Mason AM to the Sydney Opera House Trust for three-year terms starting on 1 January, 2015.
Two new appointments to the Trust will be made in the New Year – which will include a Chairperson and someone with experience in the performing arts. Mr Grant has asked the Hon Helen Coonan to act as Chairperson of the Trust in the interim.
“The Sydney Opera House is a global icon that we are all proud of,” Mr Grant said.
“It is world heritage listed, recognised by tourists and performers in every corner of the planet and is visited by more than 8 million people every year.
“Our Opera House is developing a major renewal plan for the building and precinct through to its 50th birthday in 2023.
“The Trust is well placed with significant talent and experience to guide and support management. This will be further strengthened with additional appointments in the New Year,” Mr Grant said.
Mr Grant paid tribute to outgoing Chair of the Trust John Symond AM and Wayne Blair and thanked them for their service.
“On behalf of the community, I thank John Symond for his time, experience and leadership of the Opera House over the past three years.
“John has ensured a stable and sustainable future for the Opera House, including leading the Trust through its Corporate Governance Review.
“I also thank Wayne Blair for his contribution and commitment to the Opera House, ensuring it remains one of our premier state cultural institutions,” Mr Grant said.
