Jillian Skinner med rel: NSW Medical Devices Fund applications open

Minister for Health and Minister for Medical Research Jillian Skinner today encouraged innovators to apply for grants under the NSW Government’s Medical Devices Fund.

Applications for round three of the NSW Medical Devices Fund open today, with $6.7 million available to support outstanding medical technologies.

This funding is on top of the $16.4 million already allocated to nine technologies in the first two rounds of the fund. These past recipients included Saluda Medical’s fully implantable chronic pain management system and Elastagen’s pioneering use of the human protein elastin to naturally repair skin.

“NSW has long been a world leader in the field of medical devices and over half of Australia’s medical devices industry is based here,” Mrs Skinner said.

“The recipients of the NSW Medical Devices Fund will be instrumental in the application of new treatments, diagnostic techniques and devices that will be major contributors to health improvements in the future.

“My great hope is that these potentially ground-breaking devices will one day have the same global impact that Cochlear has had for people with hearing impairment.”

Mrs Skinner said the $6.7 million available in the third round of the NSW Medical Devices Fund could help support individuals, public and private hospitals, medical research institutes, universities, other public sector research organisations or the medical devices industry to take NSW technologies to the world.

Applicants must complete the online self -assessment prior to submitting a preliminary application. Preliminary application submissions for the NSW Medical Devices Fund close at 5pm on Thursday February 5.
