Australian College of Educators recognises two Blacktown Girls High School Teachers

On 27thOctober,the Hills/Parramatta Region of the Australian College of Educators celebrated the 2014 World Teachers Day with a dinner and keynote address in the beautiful grounds of Pennant Hills Golf Club.During the evening, Mrs Kimberley Fitzgerald and Mrs SupreetKaur from Blacktown Girls High School received 2014 World Teachers Day Recognition Awards for their outstanding contributions to their school.

pic1pic3The awards were presented by the Australian College of Educators State President, Dr Fredrick Osman FACE.Mrs Fitzgerald and Mrs Kaur were nominated by Blacktown Girls High School Principal Mr Peter Flowers.

Mrs Fitzgerald was honoured for her relentless focus on embedding Literacy across the curriculum has impacted all learners and influenced colleagues at Blacktown Girls High School. Ms Fitzgerald works closely with students to develop trust and ownership for their learning. Ms Fitzgerald has encouraged girls and at risk year 10 students to strive for success, with some exceptional results.

Mrs Kaur was honoured for driving the school’s focus on quality teaching by providing staff the opportunity to critically examine and enhance their teaching practice. An excerpt from the award read ‘Mrs Kaur is an insightful teacher who uses innovative pedagogy, authentic assessment and deep concern for her students to promote higher order thinking and engagement’.

Mrs Kaur said that she felt honoured to be recognised. She said it was a privilege to work with a team of hard working staff under the lead of Mr Flowers (Principal), Mr Lumb(DP) and Mrs Trimmis (Rel. DP). Mrs Kaur said that throughworking in her role as HT Teaching and Learning Blacktown Girls High School has taken very big steps in improving student’s Literacy and Numeracy skills. ‘Blacktown Girls is a multicultural school and every student’s values and beliefs are honoured.

pic2The entire staff work hard with every student not only to enable them to achieve to their full potential but also to develop the whole child through empoweringthem to successfully engage in 21st century employment and life’. Mrs Kaur added that Blacktown Girls High School is the place that makes a difference in students’ lives.
