Syria, Pakistan discuss fight against terror, parliamentary ties

8Lahore, Dec 1 (IANS) The issues of cooperation between Syria and Pakistan at the level of their parliaments and the fight against terror were discussed at a meeting between the two countries here Monday.

These issues were raised when Speaker of the Syrian People’s Assembly Mohammad Jihad al-Laham met chairman of the Pakistani Senate’s defence committee, Senator Mushahid Hussain.

The two sides stressed on the necessity of further developing relations between the People’s Assembly of Syria and the Pakistani National Assembly, SANA reported.

Al-Laham talked about the terrorist war launched against Syria by the Takfiri organisations backed by Turkey, the West and some Arab countries.

A Takfir is a Muslim who accuses another Muslim of apostasy.

Al-Laham called for adopting a firm stance towards all countries, and international and regional organisations with regard to countering terrorism, while implementing the relevant UN Security Council’s (UNSC) resolutions.

Hussain stressed that his country was closely following what was taking place in Syria and expressed confidence that the Syrians would be able to defeat terrorism.

He hailed the historic relations binding Syria and Pakistan.
