$7.5 billion went through NSW cash registers in September with the State recording a bumper month of retail trade.
NSW Treasurer Andrew Constance said the ABS figures released today show retail trade increased 1.7 per cent in September to be up 9.5 per cent through the year – the highest of all the States.
“This is an incredibly strong result which shows consumers are confident in the NSW economy,” Mr Constance said.
“As last month’s CommSec State of the States report confirmed, NSW is the economic powerhouse of the nation.
“In three and a half years we have taken the State’s economy out of the dark ages under Labor to now be leading the pack.
“Today’s ABS figures show $7.5 billion went through NSW cash registers in September – around a third of what was spent across the entire country.
“NSW achieved the best retail sales growth of all the States on a monthly basis, and growth was well above the national average.
“This is a welcome boost to the NSW economy and we look forward to seeing this trend continue, especially in the lead up to Christmas.
“The NSW Liberals & Nationals Government is investing in the key drivers of the economy, and the latest economic figures show it’s paying off.”
