The State Government has welcomed the establishment of a taskforce to review Perth’s metropolitan harness and thoroughbred racing and training assets.
Racing and Gaming Minister Terry Waldron said the taskforce would comprise representatives from the racing industry, including chair Robert Pearson (Racing and Wagering Western Australia deputy chairman), alongside RWWA chief executive Richard Burt.
“I am also really pleased to see the appointment of Russel Perry AM to the committee, who brings with him a wealth of independent business expertise,” Mr Waldron said.
“The State Government is very supportive of this review, which will examine the metropolitan region’s key racing assets, including Belmont, Gloucester Park and Ascot.
“The aim is to measure the effectiveness of each facility, examine their sustainability, assess what capital works need to be undertaken at each facility, and identify optimal locations where sustainable racing outcomes can be achieved.
“I commend the industry for having the foresight to embark on this review in order to ensure its sustainability into the future.”
