Two SBS journalists were jointly named Journalist of the Year at last night’s Multicultural and Indigenous Media Awards, held at Parliament House, Sydney.
SBS radio Hindi Executive Producer Kumud Merani was honoured for her radio feature The Story Untold; which examines Australia’s complex migration patterns and the surprising genetic link between Australia and India’s first inhabitants, pointing to a wave of prehistoric migration.
NITV’s Malarndirri McCarthy was also named Journalist of the Year for her valuable contribution to Indigenous journalism and demonstrated excellence in the Australian media landscape.
Of the win, Mrs Merani said: “It’s great to see the multicultural and indigenous media being recognised for the pivotal role they play in informing and entertaining Australians from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Personally, it’s an honour to be named as Journalist of the Year and I’m proud to be able to continue to contribute to the multi-cultural media space through my role with SBS”.
The NSW Multicultural and Indigenous Media Awards, held at NSW Parliament House, are in their third year and aim to recognise the important contribution the multicultural and indigenous media make to Australia’s media landscape.
