Mental Health Minister Helen Morton has congratulated mental health advocacy group, Consumers of Mental Health, for successfully campaigning to change the controversial Royal Show exhibit ‘Bethlem Sanitorium’.
“This is exactly why the State Government supports this organisation, to ensure that people with a mental illness have a strong voice. This achievement is a great demonstration of that strength,” Mrs Morton said.
“It was also heartening to see there was an immediate, vocal response from people throughout the community. It clearly shows that awareness and support for mental health is growing. I encourage everyone to continue this support by joining in Mental Health Week, which starts next Sunday.
“I also commend the Royal Agricultural Society for hearing and respecting public opinion, as well as the united call from mental health advocate groups.”
The exhibition will be re-named to Mayhem Manor and will be themed around the outbreak of a deadly contagion.
