Minister for Roads and Freight Duncan Gay today welcomed the completion of safety work requested by the NSW Government on the Hills M2 motorway to ensure consistent speed limits.
“From today, motorists travelling westbound on the M2 will experience a 100km/h speed zone along the full 21 kilometre stretch, which extends from Delhi Road at North Ryde to the start of the Westlink M7.
“The upgrade to widen the bus stop lanes was a direct request from the NSW Government to Transurban to make the roads safer for those using public transport and to improve the free flow of traffic to reduce travel time.
“The bus stop safety improvement work was completed west of Windsor Road at Gooden Reserve and Cropley Drive.
“Travelling eastbound, the majority of the motorway will be 100km/h with the exception of maintenance works near Vimiera Road in Marsfield. Following completion of this maintenance work early next year the eastbound lanes will return to 100km/h.
“Increasing the whole motorway to 100km/h was only possible after the completion of dedicated safety improvements including widening of the bus stops to ensure buses weren’t stopping on the motorway.
“This work complements the completion of the upgrade to widen the motorway to deliver faster travel times for the 100,000 motorists that use this road daily.
“Motorists using the Hills M2 instead of the alternative Epping Road route in the morning will have an average travel time savings of 36 minutes.
“In the afternoon, for motorists using the Hills M2 instead of Epping Road route, an average journey will take 41 minutes less,” Mr Gay said.
