Telstra Perth Fashion Festival has secured a three-year sponsorship deal with the State Government through Tourism WA.
Tourism Minister Liza Harvey said the new deal was a testament to the value the State Government placed on the Telstra Perth Fashion Festival.
“Over the past 16 years the festival has evolved into one of the most anticipated features of Western Australia’s diverse events calendar and this new deal will help take the much-loved event to the next level,” Mrs Harvey said.
“The new agreement also includes support for a new swimwear fashion show in November, which will be like nothing else held in Australia.”
Mrs Harvey said events such as the Telstra Perth Fashion Festival played an important role in the State Government’s strategy to grow the value of tourism to the economy to $12billion by 2020.
“Telstra Perth Fashion Festival brings a fantastic vibe to the city making it a great place for locals and visitors,” she said.
“It also attracts national and international media exposure for the State – which was worth about $65million in 2013 alone.”
The State Government also supports the Telstra Perth Fashion Festival through the Department of Culture and the Arts.
Culture and the Arts Minister John Day said this year’s festival would involve more than 100 designers, including 42 from WA, which was great exposure for the local fashion industry.
“The Telstra Perth Fashion Festival plays a significant role in promoting WA’s fashion industry by profiling emerging and established designers,” Mr Day said.
“This year, Western Australian designers will be featured in more than half of the festival’s 45 events.”
