Slovenia sends aid to flood-hit Serbia, Bosnia

Ljubljana, June 28 (IANS) The Slovenian military has sent more than 700 tonnes of relief aid to Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia after large parts of the two countries suffered catastrophic floods in early May.

In addition to the humanitarian aid that included water, food and clothing, some 300 soldiers were involved in the disaster relief work.

Members of Slovenia’s police, army and Civil Protection and Disaster Relief Administration helped evacuate flooded areas, deliver food, water and other necessities and rescue farm animals, Xinhua cited Slovenian defense ministry as saying Friday.

In response to requests from the two countries, many non-governmental organisations and charity organisations also joined charity effort by collecting donations and organising transport to the affected areas.

Continuous rainfall caused floods and landslides in Serbia and in Bosnia-Herzegovina. The flooding in the latter, the worst in about 120 years, left 20 people dead, media reports said.
